Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is one of the third-party games we learned was coming to Nintendo Switch 2 when the console was revealed at the beginning of April, and in Nintendo's latest Creator's Voice video, director Naoki Hamaguchi seems to hint that the rest of the remake trilogy will also make its way to the Switch 2.
Talking about the Switch 2 and its improved hardware, Hamaguchi said, "I felt it would have enough power to run the Final Fantasy VII remake series I was creating. That's what convinced me to be involved."
Hamaguchi also talked about how the added memory in the Switch 2 is a boon for developers, and about how personally important it is for him to be able to make a game for a Nintendo console. The fact that it's his Final Fantasy VII series makes it all the more special for him, due to the relationship he's had with Nintendo as a fan and gamer for years.
He added that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been recreated for the console "with full specs," and that the team was able to bring it to the Switch 2 while remaining faithful to the version available on PlayStation, "to a certain extent." Considering Hamaguchi's phrasing here, that seems to suggest Square Enix picked their battles with what was possible on Switch 2.
Which is to say that the Switch 2 hardware is definitely better than it was on the Nintendo Switch, but you probably shouldn't go into playing Final Fantasy VII Remake on the Switch 2 thinking you'll have a PS5-level experience. Still, it seems like a clear indicator that if Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade can run on the Switch 2 without Square Enix having to make too many concessions, Rebirth and the third game in the series should be able to run on the Switch 2 without issue.
At the end of the video, Hamaguchi added, "I have high hopes that we can build a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand."
