Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a vast improvement on PlayStation 5 Pro, delivering a much better image quality at 60 frames per second over the base model, according to a new early analysis.

Today, Digital Foundry released their first look at the second entry in the remake trilogy running on PlayStation 5 Pro. The analysis is based on 7-minute long uninterrupted footage set at the beginning of Chapter 2 when Cloud and his companions venture into the first open-world region of the game, the Grasslands. Right from the start, it's clear how much better the game looks on PlayStation 5 Pro, as the unnamed visual mode featured in the video delivers a sharp 4K image while painting smooth 60 frames per second. Regarding image quality, everything seems to be a massive improvement over Performance Mode on the base model, with a sharper image and better details. Many of the visual issues seen on the base model are also fixed, such as ghosting issues, distant trees shimmering, and others.

The same improvements can be seen in combat as well. Even during Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's most intense enemy encounters, the image quality remains sharp, with 4K-like detail. Particles have also been improved, although they reveal how the game is using PSSR, which is upscaling the image to 4K from a base resolution of 1152p or 1224p.

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Digital Foundry early analysis also compares the game running on the PlayStation 5 Pro with the base model's Quality mode, highlighting how the image quality is mostly the same, with some improvements on the Pro model. With performance being solid as well, with only a few minor drops here and there, it seems like the power of the new console will benefit the second entry in the trilogy series quite a bit.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PlayStation 5. You can learn more about the game by checking out Kai's review.
