Fanxiang, a Taiwanese-based storage manufacturer, has introduced its brand new S900PRO PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs rated at up to 12 GB/s.

Taiwanese Storage Maker Launches S900PRO PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs Rated At Up To 12,000 MB/s

As SSD manufacturers gear up for faster revisions of their existing Gen5 NVMe SSDs, we will get a range of high-end products. Initially, most of the Gen5 SSDs topped out at 10 GB/s or lower due to premature NAND flash technology. Now that higher-layer NAND is rolling out, Gen5 SSDs are going to offer their full potential.

Fanxiang, an SSD maker from Taiwan, has recently introduced its brand new S900PRO series SSDs that utilize higher-quality 232-layer TLC NAND Flash, providing an increase of 32% over the last-gen and offering 28% lower area. The SSDs utilize the same Phison PS5026-E26 high-end controller that has been adopted by the bleeding edge PCIe Gen5 SSDs.

Coming to the specifications, the Fanxiang S900Pro Gen5 SSDs will come in three variants, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. The top two designs are rated at 12,000 MB/s Read and 11,000 MB/s Write speeds & with 1500/1500 IOPS, 3000 TBW. The 1 TB SSD is rated at 11,500 MB/s Read and 8,500 MB/s Write speeds with 1300/1500 IOPs & 700 TBW. The 4 TB variant comes with 8 GB LPDDR4 DRAM, the 2 TB model comes with 4 GB and the 1 TB variant features 2 GB LPDDR4 DRAM, all of which are rated at 2400 MT/s.

All capacities come in the standard M.2 2280 form factor and include a nice heatsink which thermal pads on both ends for effective cooling performance. The company has also shared a few numbers which show up to 12.4 GB/s Read and 11.8 GB/s Write speeds running on the AMD AM5 platform. It is also stated that the Gen5 SSDs can achieve much faster game load & 3D model loading times vs older storage solutions. Pricing is suggested at 1299 RMB ($180US) for the 1 TB & 2299 RMB ($320 US) for the 2 TB variant while the 4 TB variant is yet to hit shelves.
