Samsung was reported to have commenced mass production of its newly announced Exynos 2600 back in September, where the company was estimated to have achieved yields of 50 percent. The Korean giant’s initial target would be to reach a minimum of 70 percent to make it economically viable to begin accepting orders from customers, but at this time, there’s no update on the company’s 2nm GAA progress. However, a new report can serve as a positive indicator that the next-generation manufacturing process is witnessing stability improvements as Samsung reportedly has plans to equip its upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 with the Exynos 2600.
Using the Exynos 2600 for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will ensure that Samsung can lower its chipset expenditure while also enabling its affordable foldable smartphone to tout flagship capabilities
A report from The Bell states that Samsung’s MX and LSI divisions are discussing equipping the Exynos 2600 in the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which is said to arrive next summer. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also expected to be announced alongside the clamshell foldable smartphone, but Samsung will likely use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is estimated that Qualcomm’s latest and greatest SoC costs $280 per unit, but this figure is based on multiple factors, such as order volume and individual contracts.
Still, paying close to $300 for a single component isn’t a viable strategy for Samsung, especially when the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be priced significantly lower than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, meaning that the company’s margins will potentially be lower. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s high price makes the Exynos 2600 an exceptional alternative, but it remains to be seen how well the chipset’s commercial unit performs in a series of tests.
Samsung has published official figures for its 2nm GAA process, and while the differences aren’t that much pronounced compared to the 3nm GAA node, it gives the company an opening for its Exynos 2600 to showcase the performance and efficiency of the latter to boost the confidence of a number of potential customers.
Aside from the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung’s first 2nm GAA SoC is expected to be found in the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+, with the Galaxy S26 Ultra exclusively shipping with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
