Today, independent German developer Keen Games announced the release date of Enshrouded 1.0. The game will be released on October 15 for PC and PlayStation 5, but the Xbox version has been delayed to next Spring.
Jan Jöckel, CEO of Keen Games, said in a statement:
Our team worked tirelessly to launch Enshrouded 1.0 and its exciting new content simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series S|X. Enshrouded combines large-scale voxel building, fully terraformable worlds, advanced multiplayer systems, and a vast open world in ways that are technically very demanding. As we approached launch, we decided that achieving the level of quality and performance we expect on Xbox would require additional time. We never want to rush a platform release or compromise on quality. Development of the Xbox version is progressing steadily, and we’re planning to bring Enshrouded to Xbox players in spring 2027. Players can look forward to learning much more about Enshrouded 1.0 this summer.
The game launched on Steam Early Access in January 2024, quickly finding an eager audience for the 'Zelda + Valheim' premise sold by the developers. Over a million users bought it in the first four days; by August, Enshrouded had sold three million units, which became four by April 2025 and five in early 2026. Throughout this time, of course, Enshrouded also received significant content and feature updates:
- World & Exploration: Embervale has expanded with diverse new regions, including the vertical Blackmire swamp, the sub-zero Albaneve Summits, and the cliff-filled Veilwater Basin, alongside giant combat-heavy Hollow Halls mega-dungeons.
- Sandbox Systems: A dynamic voxel water simulation introduced fully functional flowing rivers and lakes. This works in tandem with a complete fishing mechanic, animal husbandry for taming and breeding livestock, and an Adventure Sharing portal to download massive community-built maps.
- Combat Overhauls: Class variety has expanded with fast dual-wield daggers and reworked greatswords, driven by a "Focus" bar for devastating heavy attacks. Enemy stealth AI is vastly more responsive, and gear can now be reinforced using customizable attribute runes.
- Quality of Life: Co-op servers are much smoother thanks to the inclusion of individual, player-based quest progression. Additionally, the game has implemented a dedicated cosmetic vanity/transmog layer, playable musical instruments that extend rest buffs, and granular password controls to protect server builds.
More info about the additions planned for version 1.0 will be available in the coming months.
