Indie action RPG and survival co-op game Enshrouded has surpassed 4 million players since its early access launch in January 2024, reaching that milestone only 8 months after it celebrated hitting 3 million players.

Developer and publisher Keen Games GmbH also celebrated the milestone by giving players their first sneak peek at Enshrouded's next major update, titled Thralls of Twilight, which was shown off for the first time during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase on Thursday.

There's no set release date for the Thralls of Twilight update, but we know it'll feature improvements to the nighttime cycle, new enemies to face off against, and new materials to collect that will let you craft new devastating weapons.

The new update will also include balancing tweaks to combat, the ability to add mods to your weapons, and balancing tweaks to survival mechanics in the game.

Thralls of Twilight is currently set to launch in May 2025, and Keen Games intends to provide more details about the update once the actual release date is closer next month.

Part of the appeal to early access games is that players can help shape the game alongside the developers. Enshrouded's community has been no exception, with Keen Games calling the suggestions from players "almost overwhelming," according to a press release.

Antony Christoulakis, creative director at Keen Games, added, "It's impossible to answer them all, so instead, we'll just say 'thank you so very much' and organize them by how often or how passionately they are requested."

As for when Enshrouded will leave its early access state, that still seems to be a ways off, as it's not planned to be released in full on consoles and PC until Spring 2026. Thralls of Twilight is the sixth major update to the game since its initial launch, and at the current pace Keen Games is working, it looks like we'll have a few more updates before it reaches 1.0
