If you've been playing ARC Raiders since it launched in October 2025, then you've seen evolve into a friendlier sort of extraction shooter. One where players have chosen to play a PvE game, only firing their weapons at robotic ARC enemies instead of other Raiders. Now, a new report from Insider-Gaming points to developer Embark Studios testing a first-of-its-kind PvE map condition called 'Rebellion Incident.'
The report claims that the map condition is being tested in China, with discussion of the new map condition having been spotted on Chinese social media platforms. Rebellion is one of two map conditions being tested, allegedly, with the other said to be called Double King.
The Rebellion Incident map condition is said to be a "low-difficulty mode," according to a user on X (formerly Twitter) who spied the discussions of the new modes on Chinese forums. Players are friendly by default, though they can choose to 'go rogue' as it were and start a 'rebellion' to begin harming other players. Those who decide to do so will be painted as 'Traitors' to alert non-rebellious players.
The other map condition, Double King, is said to place both of the game's major ARC bosses onto the map at the same time, with players going up against a Matriarch and a Queen ARC. Taking both down at the same time would be quite the exciting challenge for a full server of players stacked to the brim with their best weapons and grenades.
It's unclear, of course, if these map conditions will make their way to the full game, though if that is what Embark is planning, it'll be a while before we get any confirmation. The studio recently confirmed that it would be switching to a slower cadence of updates, with only two major updates scheduled for each year now. If these map conditions are being tested now, they might not be revealed until the next big update, set to arrive in October 2026.
Embark also recently revealed that ARC Raiders has surpassed 16 million copies sold, a massive milestone for a game that practically exploded onto the video game industry last October. When considering the natural evolution of its PvE player base, it's no surprise that Embark is looking to lean into that side of the community more.
ARC Raiders isn't the only extraction shooter potentially going in a more PvE direction, as Bungie's Marathon is set to kick off its Season 2 tomorrow, which will include experimental PvE queues.
