After the acquisition of Twitter, which was also followed by a series of layoffs, Elon Musk has announced from his personal profile that the social network will witness a rebranding soon and could simply be called ‘X’ in the future. It is likely that the name change will include a hefty number of changes to the features and how millions of people interact with the service.

Twitter has already been merged into a company called X Corp, with a rebranding to X matching the name of the firm

In one of his tweets, Musk provided an update to his followers, stating that ‘And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.’ The Tesla CEO has also pinned a tweet below, which is present at the top of his feed, showing how the Twitter logo transitions to an X, along with a few video edits. This ‘X’ could be the new logo of the company.

Twitter’s newly appointed CEO, Linda Yaccarino, also says the following, welcoming the change while also hinting at what users should expect from the platform that may no longer be called Twitter in a short time.

“It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.

X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.

For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.

There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. @elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.”

The rebranding of Twitter could prove to be a move that ends up saving the company financially. There have been attempts to increase the social network’s revenue, along with executing major cost-cutting measures to ensure that the platform becomes profitable. The rebranding to X could also help the platform distance itself from the numerous controversies that have attempted to bury it.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk said that Twitter was still bleeding money, affected by a 50 percent drop in advertising revenue coupled with heavy debt. This change can mean that Musk envisions Twitter becoming the WeChat of the U.S., offering a slew of services and other features to maintain active user engagement and maximize revenue.
