Elden Ring Creator Says Seamless Co-Op Mod May Be Added as a Feature in a Future FromSoftware Game

Mere days before the launch of the one and only Elden Ring expansion (Shadow of the Erdtree), PC Gamer cornered FromSoftware president and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The interview wasn't merely focused on the DLC, though; for example, they asked Miyazaki how he felt about players using guides to complete Elden Ring, and he replied that it's a perfectly valid playstyle.

Similarly, PC Gamer inquired with Miyazaki about the Seamless Co-Op mod. For those unaware, this is by far the most popular Elden Ring mod available on PC, with 3.7 million downloads on Nexus Mods. It allows players to experience FromSoftware's game with up to six players (the host plus five) without any of the default limitations.

Not only is Miyazaki not opposed; apparently, he could consider a 'seamless co-op' feature for the studio's future titles.

It's definitely not something we actively oppose or want to downplay, wanting to go through the whole game together. In terms of where we were with Elden Ring, it was simply a case of wanting that more loose, casual style—drop in, defeat a boss, drop out. It doesn't put any technical restrictions on the player, it just sort of lets them complete this focus and then move on, so to speak.

That's not to say we won't consider other ways like you and your friend played, from beginning to end, total co-op—that's not to say we won't consider ideas like that with our future games.

Such a feature would definitely attract the favor of many, many players, especially on consoles where mods for the game are not available.
