The fastest gaming CPU can deliver much higher FPS than any Intel CPU in the latest Resident Evil title, but percentile FPS show a different story.

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D Pushes Resident Evil Requiem Past 300 FPS With RTX 5090, Beating Core i9 14900KS by Over 100 FPS

Resident Evil Requiem launches tomorrow, and fans can't wait to see how the game runs on their current hardware. That said, while the developers recommend just an RTX 2060 or RX 6600 for smooth gameplay, paired with something like an Intel Core i7 8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500, gamers are interested in seeing how much FPS they can get on higher-end hardware. The recommended specs are quite old, and millions of gamers currently own powerful hardware such as the latest Ryzen 9000 or Intel 14th-gen or Core Ultra Series 2 processors.

If you are interested in seeing which processors deliver the highest average FPS, then PC Games Hardware has its results out. While we will have our own benchmarks out in a few days, it's good to have benchmarks from other popular outlets. The German outlet has compared several processors from the current and previous-gen Intel and AMD families to see which chip offers the best performance in the title. Among them, we can see the best AMD gaming processor (Ryzen 7 9850X3D), and the best Intel gaming processor (Core i9 14900KS) against each other.

As you can see, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is at the top of the chart, which was expected, but the difference in average FPS between the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Core i9 14900KS is nearly 50%. The test was conducted at 1080p with the GeForce RTX 5090 to see which processor performs the best at rasterization. With DDR5 RAM set at 5600 MT/s, the results clearly show that the 9850X3D is the undisputed king of gaming, but it would have been interesting to see how the i9 14900KS would perform if the RAM was overclocked a bit more. Keep in mind that the results may or may not change drastically, but it's possible that the gap would shrink.

Nonetheless, the Intel processor closes the gap when it comes to 1% lows, which is the more important metric. Despite losing by 100 FPS at average FPS, the 1% lows show the Intel chip is still doing ok. Ryzen X3D chips are still leading the charts easily in every area, especially the first three chips (9850X3D, 9950X3D, 7800X3D). In RT benchmarks, the performance difference between AMD X3D and Intel chips shrinks, but overall Ryzen 7000X3D and 9000X3D remain the winners.
