Dragon’s Dogma 2 Won’t Be The Finale, As CAPCOM Quietly Slots The Series Into Its Long-Term Growth Roadmap

Dragon's Dogma 2 had a successful launch back in March 2024, yet the second entry in the series did not receive the same amount of post-launch support as other Capcom franchises. While backend changes spotted on Steam last month suggest that something could be in the works, the silence surrounding the game is making most fans fear that, with director Hideaki Itsuno's departure, this could be it for the franchise. Thankfully, this doesn't seem to be the case, as CAPCOM will nurture the series, among others, for its long-term growth.

In its latest financial report for FY26/3, the Japanese publisher included a section called "Ongoing Maximization of IP Value," mentioning select Leading Brands that are set to be the next "engine of growth." Among them are Mega Man, Onimusha, Ace Attorney, Okami, Devil May Cry, and Dead Rising.

This list of IPs is very interesting. For starters, some of them are known to be alive and well, such as Mega Man, Onimusha, and Okami, which are getting new releases, while others received remakes and releases relatively recently, such as Ace Attorney and Dead Rising. Devil May Cry's inclusion is also not surprising, considering the series' renewed popularity with the Netflix anime and rumors of a remake of the first entry in the series circulating online.

The biggest surprise is indeed the inclusion of the Dragon's Dogma series. This clearly indicates that CAPCOM is not going to abandon the brand and may release an expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2, another entry in the series, or even a remake of the first game, which is still today one of the most unique action role-playing games ever released.

Although learning that Dragon's Dogma 2 may not be the series' finale is positive, I still couldn't help but feel disappointed that Breath of Fire or Dino Crisis are still being sidelined. Hopefully, the information found in the report represents only a portion of the company's strategy for the future of its IPs.
