iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 now available for download.

Apple has released the final version of iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 to the public. Here is everything that is new for iPhone and iPad users.

iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 arrives with the new HomeKit architecture, Push Notifications for Safari, New Emoji, and so much more

It’s been a while since we saw a brand new software update for iPhone and iPad. But, if you’ve been testing out betas, then the last few weeks were most likely a rollercoaster ride for you. Today, the average consumer gets a taste of something new as well, and that is iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4.

Although we have covered in detail what is new in iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4, we will still lay down the official feature list of the new updates for everyone to read. It’s not much, but worth reading with an espresso, so dive right in. This update includes the following enhancements and bug fixes:

Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website:

The part that excites me here the most is the new HomeKit architecture which was pulled from previous iOS and iPadOS releases. Once applied, it should make your HomeKit setup far more responsive, and everything should be available for use in a snap. However, those who applied the new architecture ran into all sorts of trouble, and we are assuming Apple has done a rock-solid job this time around. Still, I will recommend holding back for a while and seeing how it turns out for other users first.

So, you’ve done with the reading part. Let’s jump to the part where you download and install the update onto your iPhone and iPad. If you’re going to perform the update over the air, and you should, it’s exactly how it was before. Make sure you have 50% or more battery life on your iPhone and iPad; otherwise, you are required to connect your device to AC power. You also need to be on Wi-Fi unless you have a truly unlimited data plan to burn. Once those two things are taken care of, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 download will show right up. Tap on Download and Install, that’s all.

You have the option to perform a clean installation of the update as well. Make sure you have backed up everything using iCloud, iTunes, or Finder first. iCloud is the quickest method - simply go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > iCloud Backup for more details. You are also required to turn off Find My before performing a clean installation - you can do so by going to Settings > Apple ID > Find My > Find My iPhone and turning off the feature from here.

For a clean installation, download the iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 IPSW firmware file from the links below and save it to your desktop. Once the download is complete, read further.

Once all of the above is done, connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC or Mac using either a Lightning or a USB-C cable. As soon as your device is detected, launch Finder or iTunes, whichever is applicable. Now click on the tiny iPhone-like icon on the left, then click on the Restore iPhone button while holding down the left Shift key (Windows) or the left Option key (Mac). Select the IPSW file which you downloaded and saved to your desktop from one of the links above.
