Dimensity 9400 To Use A Combination Of Cortex-X5, Cortex-X4 Cores, Tipster Claims Alleged Multi-Core Score Challenges The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

MediaTek rumored to use just Cortex-X5 and Cortex-X4 cores for the Dimensity 9400

The Dimensity 9400 has previously been rumored to adopt the same CPU cluster as the Dimensity 9300, meaning that MediaTek’s upcoming flagship SoC will lack power efficiency cores for the second time. One tipster now provides an update about the configuration, claiming that the chipset will utilize a combination of Cortex-X5 and Cortex-X4 cores, resulting in a multi-core score that competes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Dimensity 9400 is rumored to feature a single Cortex-X5 core, remaining cluster to comprise of the Cortex-X4, with a multi-core score allegedly reaching 10,000 points

Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the Dimensity 9400 will rely on ARM’s CPU and GPU designs, but with both flagship chipsets rumored to be mass produced on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, it can help to tame the power draw of the high-performance cores. On Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station has stated that MediaTek’s top-end silicon is being tested with a single Cortex-X5 and three Cortex-X4 cores, making it a lethal CPU cluster that should run laps around the competition when it comes to multi-threaded performance.

In fact, the tipster has also shared that the Dimensity 9400 has a multi-core score of 10,000, which is what the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 obtained in an earlier Geekbench 6 leak, securing 10,628 points in the benchmark. This makes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 significantly faster than their direct predecessors. For the first time, these Android SoCs might cement a massive lead against Apple’s upcoming A18 Pro, which allegedly received disappointing multi-core scores.

Fortunately, A18 Pro’s single-core result remains unchallenged, assuming those scores are legit. Looking at Dimensity 9400’s alleged performance, it is clear that companies such as MediaTek are leveraging TSMC’s advanced lithography to drop efficiency cores in an effort to become the undisputed king of mobile application processors. However, the tipster has not mentioned any power consumption figures, which is also a key metric, and it is something that we have pointed out on multiple occasions.

When those numbers become publicly available, we can share our opinions on the Dimensity 9400’s capabilities. Until then, remember to treat this rumor with a pinch of salt, and we will be back with additional updates.
