The Devil May Cry, and Dragon's Dogma series director Hideaki Itsuno is leaving CAPCOM, the game designer himself confirmed today.
In a new message shared on X earlier today, Itsuno-san confirmed that at the end of August 2024, he is leaving CAPCOM after 30 years and 5 months with the company. This, however, isn't the end of his involvement in the gaming industry, as from next month, he will start developing a new game in a new environment, hoping to create fun and beautiful games that are as memorable as the ones he created so far, if not even more.
While it is nice to hear that Hideaki Itsuno will continue making games, it is impossible not to wonder what is going to happen to the two franchises he directed while at CAPCOM. Devil May Cry, for example, thrived under his guidance, culminating with the release of the fifth entry in the series a few years back that is, in my opinion, one of the best entries in the series, if not the very best. Dragon's Dogma, on the other hand, hasn't thrived as much, although the second entry in the series, which was released only a few months back, did manage to sell decently well, although the game feels, in many ways, more than a reboot of the original rather than an actual sequel, as Alessio rightly highlighted in his review.
No matter what the Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma director will do in the future, we wish him well in his endeavors. Hopefully, it won't take long to learn more about his next project.
