The Denuvo anti-tamper tech was removed today from Forspoken, the open-world role-playing game developed by Luminous Productions and Square Enix released earlier this year on PC and PlayStation 5.
As confirmed on Stead Database, the game is no longer protected by the controversial DRM as of today. As Denuvo often has a significant impact on performance, it will be interesting to see if the open-world game will now run better than before.
Performance issues plagued Forspoken at launch on both PC and PlayStation 5, but Square Enix continued to work on the game even after the closing of Luminous Productions, releasing multiple patches that addressed several technical issues. For the other problems the game has, such as the bland open world, weak RPG systems, and a disappointing cast of characters, there was nothing to be done, however, and the excellent combat system and traversal systems aren't enough to salvage the experience, as highlighted by Alessio in his review.
Forspoken is a fun action game that shines best when you're taking advantage of the great magic parkour to soar through the fantasy world of Athia and blast enemies with overwhelmingly cool spells. However, its content is underwhelming, its RPG systems are weak, and its visuals are less advanced than advertised. As such, Forspoken's potential is largely unrealized in its current state. It's still a decent romp for genre fans to go through, though waiting until it gets a discount or is added to one of the many subscription services is recommended.
Forspoken is now available on PC and PlayStation 5 worldwide.
