A new Cyberpunk 2077 patch is now live on PC, bringing the impressive Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, NVIDIA DLAA and Intel XeSS support, and more.

Patch 1.62, which started rolling out a few minutes ago, introduces the technology preview of Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, a new path-traced rendering mode that only high-end machines can run with an acceptable level of performance. According to CD Projekt Red, Overdrive mode is only supported on the NVIDIA RTX 40 series and on RTX 3090, although only at 1080p resolution, 30 FPS on the previous gen graphics card. Other ray tracing-capable GPUs with at least 8 GB of VRAM will be able to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode.

The new Cyberpunk 2077 patch also introduces NVIDIA DLAA support, an AI-based anti-aliasing mode that requires an NVIDIA RTX GPU, as well as Intel XeSS support and benchmark improvements. The full update notes can be found on the game's official website.

Despite it being new technology, the Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode seems to be the real deal, as it provides massive visual improvements, as highlighted by Digital Foundry in a new video. The unsurprising huge performance cost can be alleviated by DLSS 3 and Frame Generation to deliver playable framerates, although only RTX 4090 users will be able to run the game in Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode and still have a playable experience.

While Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode is only available to select users, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to get more features and content that will be more widely available later this year, such as the Phantom Liberty expansion. Starring a new character played by renowned actor Idris Elba, the expansion will be the biggest to date for CD Projekt Red in terms of budget. While details are scarce as of now, more on this expansion will start getting shared later this June.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One worldwide. The game's aforementioned expansion Phantom Liberty will release later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S only.
