As we officially move closer towards 2026 being half-over, global analytics firm Newzoo's latest monthly report provides an insight into which of the biggest releases in March 2026 drove engagement and revenue, and which of this year's releases are at the top of the charts one quarter into the year. Unsurprisingly, it's Crimson Desert, Pokémon Pokopia, and Resident Evil Requiem at the top of the charts.

All three games are at the top of the chart for best-selling games by revenue between January and March 2026. Requiem sits at the top, followed by Crimson Desert in second and Pokopia in third. MLB The Show 26 and WWE 2K26 round out the rest of the top five, with Marathon in sixth, Slay the Spider 2 in seventh, and the other major indie hit of the year, Mewgenics, in eighth place.

Where Crimson Desert finds the top of the charts is when you limit the scope to just best-selling PC games for March, where it led against live service juggernauts like Fortnite and Counter-Strike 2 in second and third. Slay the Spire 2 also made that top five, but in fourth place between CS2 and World of Warcraft in fifth.

Resident Evil Requiem was also on that list, but in ninth place. Still, out of the three games, it's the only one to appear in the top ten overall top games by revenue, the top PC games by revenue for March 2026, and the top console games by revenue for March 2026. None of them, however, were able to break into the top ten games by monthly active users (MAU) on PC or consoles. Those all remained the live service juggernauts you'd expect.

Resident Evil Requiem is also the only new release of 2026 to make the top ten in all three categories, as Capcom continues to be on a generational run of commercial hits between its success with its Resident Evil and Monster Hunter releases over recent years. Even its titles that branch beyond those franchises like the recent Pragmata, are finding stellar commercial success right out of the gate.

As for Newzoo's outlook on the year so far, the firm reports that "Strong launches remain common across the market, but sustained performance continues to concentrate among a smaller set of titles, reflecting increasingly selective player engagement and spending."

It's key takeaways for new releases for the first quarter of the year are:

It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the year's big releases do compared to the first quarter. Obviously, there will be one game at the top of every chart, whether its by revenue or units sold, by the end of the year if Grand Theft Auto VI arrives when it is expected to this November. But spots two to ten will still be up for grabs. With Resident Evil Requiem having such a strong start, this might be another year in a row where Capcom makes the top five best-selling games by at least one metric.
