Colorful Rimbook S1 Launched at $439 for Students, Home Users, and Professionals; Features a Lightweight Design and a Slim Form-Factor
At the end of July this year, hardware manufacturer Colorful announced the debut of its Rimbook series for laptops, which offered entry-level specifications, useful for students and home users. The company has announced a new laptop in the series called Rimbook S1, which offers an upgraded processor from Intel's 13th gen family.

Building on the spirit of progress and mobility, the Rimbook S1 is designed to deliver reliable performance in a compact 14-inch form factor at an affordable price. With i(ts balance of efficiency, portability, and value, it is an ideal choice for students, home users, and professionals seeking a practical everyday laptop.

The first Rimbook laptop, called L1, offered the Core i5 12450H, and the S1 upgrades it to Core i5 13420H. Both are similar in specifications except that the Core i5 13420H offers higher clocks. They both offer the same 8-core/12-thread configuration, featuring a hybrid 4x P-core + 4x E-core combo, but the i5 13420H runs at 100 MHz higher base clock and can boost up to 4.6 GHz vs 4.4 GHz on the 12450H.
Rimbook S1 is advertised for day-to-day usage as it's affordable, slim, lightweight, and offers generous specifications for light-weight workloads. The S1 boasts a 14-inch display, featuring 1920 x 1200 resolution, and offers a pretty slim design, measuring less than 2cm (1.79 cm to be exact) in thickness and weighing just 1.48 Kg. So, even though Colorful was able to retain the same thickness, it reduced the weight by over 200 grams.

This is largely due to a smaller design as the L1 featured a bigger 15.6" display, but the S1 offers higher resolution. The brightness on the L1 was 50 nits higher, but that's essentially the only notable differences between the two. The Rimbook S1 offers a slightly bigger 60 Wh battery vs 50 Wh on the L1, and has the same 16 GB DDR4 RAM and 512 GB SSD storage. Connectivity is almost identical, and you get similar ports and internet connectivity features as the L1.
The Colorful Rimbook S1 is launched at $439 (excluding VAT), but availability will vary from region to region.
