The nominations for the Golden Joystick Awards 2025 are now live, with players being able to vote across 21 categories, and while some years are tight races between the games that have made the most impact before the end of the year, this year has a clear frontrunner in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Sandfall Interactive's debut title has six total nominations, including a nomination for best studio, but interestingly, Clair Obscur misses out on some bigger categories, including Console Game of the Year. It is however, up for Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Soundtrack, Best Leading Performer for Jennifer English as Maelle, and Best Supporting Performer with Ben Starr getting the nomination for his role as Verso.

Other big titles with multiple nominations include Hollow Knight Silksong, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Ghost of Yotei. Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, and Kingdom Come: Delieverance 2 are all tied for second place behind Clair Obscur in the nominations race with four nominations each.

The Ultimate Game of the Year category is still to come, so it's possible that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and some of the titles behind it will each add another tally to their nominations, but we'll have to wait until November 3, 2025, for that nominations list to be revealed.

When Wccftech reviewed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 earlier this year, we said it had "a gripping story, a beautifully written cast of characters, and engaging gameplay that breathes new life into familiar mechanics."

While the nominees for the Golden Joysticks Awards 2025, and every year, are selected by a judging panel, the voting and the winners are all decided by public votes, making them a pretty fair representation of what players really consider to be the best-of-the-best in videogames each year. Last year, Black Myth: Wukong took home the prize for Ultimate Game of the Year.
