Chinese chipmaker, PowerLeader, has announced the launch of its 1st Gen x86 CPUs known as Powerstar for the domestic market.

Powerstar x86 CPUs Mark The Beginning of PowerLeader's Domestic Journey, Claims To Be Much Faster Than Other Locally Made Chips

The PowerLeader Powerstar x86 CPUs were announced during a press conference held in Shenzen, China. While the specifications are limited at the moment, PowerLeader did state that they expect a total of 1.5 million annual sales for the first-generation Powerstar chips. The processors are said to be extremely high-performance and will be much faster than the domestic chips currently available on the market.

As such, these chips will be competing against the Zhaoxin & Loongson chips which have become big names in the domestic China market and have several generation's worth of support compared to PowerLeader's Powerstar CPUs.

PowerLeader is positioning its Powerstar x86 CPU lineup for various segments including education, government, energy, industry, finance, medical, retail, and gaming. The company also stated that it has prepped up a complete product roadmap and will continue to evolve the Powerstar lineup. The lineup will also be shipping in a diverse range of products such as pre-built desktops, workstations, and industrial computers. It is unknown if Powerstar x86 CPUs will be available as a standalone DIY package.

The company showed off an SKU that had the PL PSTAR P3 "P3-01105"  codename & is rated at 3.7 GHz. Based on the chip design and layout, it looks a lot like Intel's LGA 1151/1200 socketed chips & has a similar codename and clock as the Core i3-10105. It looks like the x86 design could be similar if not entirely the same as Intel's 10th Gen CPUs.

It remains to be seen if Powerstar is just rebranding Intel CPUs with new names or if they have some of their own proprietary technology underneath it but that can only be confirmed once actual chip and platform details are shared.
