CXMT is now charging more for memory than the big three DRAM makers as demand swells in China's domestic AI markets.

CXMT Benefits Big Time From DRAM Crisis By Charging Hefty Premium For Its Memory Products

Most global media outlets were under the impression that CXMT was going to be the "Cheaper Alternative" to Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, who are asking big sums of cash for their DRAM products, but that wasn't the case. In our exclusive, we reported that CXMT's advantage was not in its price, but in its supply, and that remained true; demand skyrocketed 10-fold, and now, even CXMT is being pressured to raise prices across the board for memory products.

In a report by Reuters, it is stated that CXMT now charges more for its memory than Samsung, highlighting a hefty premium for China's domestic tech firms. It is said that the price for CXMT's 64 GB DDR5 modules has reached a staggering $1240 per unit, which is higher than Samsung's. This isn't regular DDR5 memory that you find in PCs, but rather server RDIMM memory. China's memory manufacturers have been able to hit up to 8000 MT/s speeds on RDIMM memory, as we reported a few months back.

In recent weeks, CXMT has charged more than Samsung's roughly $1,240-per-unit price for comparable 64-gigabyte DDR5 server memory modules, two of these people said.

Even PC vendors in China are rushing to secure CXMT's DRAM supply with memory orders stretching through 2027.

The higher prices are now affecting China's AI and tech firms, as they are delaying products due to rising prices. Huawei, China's premier AI and technology company, is also affected by these shortages, and the report alleges that even Huawei was denied any relief in memory prices, but both CXMT and Huawei remain business partners.

The chipmaker held firm when Huawei demanded relief from the escalating costs, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Currently, CXMT holds the 4th position in the DRAM segment with an 8-10% market share as of 2025-206. This is followed by Micron with a 24% share, SK Hynix with a 29% share, and Samsung with a 36% share. The company is preparing for a historic IPO and is also racing to build several fabs as part of its "Epic Expansion" plans.

CXMT is also currently engaged in long-term agreements with ByteDance and Alibaba (to name a few). Apple was recently reported to have been looking at CXMT as an alternative supply for its products, but given the fact that they have LTA's signed up that span several years & prices that are on par with or higher than the Big Three, this might affect the plan.
