When you are looking at AI-capable tools, ChatGPT happens to be one of the best, and there is really not a lot you can say about this tool as far as the negatives are concerned. OpenAI is constantly ensuring that there are new and better things coming to the AI chatbot to further enhance user experience.

ChatGPT's memory feature is impressive and scary, but the company ensures you can turn it off if you don't want to use it

Now, the company has announced that it is currently testing a memory feature with ChatGPT. As the name suggests, memory will let the chatbot remember everything you have discussed across all the chats. This might not seem like a big deal, but it will allow the chatbot to save you from repeating questions or information, for that matter. The feature is not available to everyone as it is rolling out to a small set of users on the free and paid plan. The company said that it plans on introducing a wider rollout soon.

So, if you are wondering how this is going to work, the company has given some examples of how it will work. For instance, if you tell ChatGPT about how you own a coffee shop, the next time you are thinking about ways you can create an engaging social media post, the chatbot is going to remember this fact. Other than that, you can even mention your preferences when summarizing your meeting notes, and the chatbot will keep it in mind across all future meetings that you might have.

Now, this might be a concern for a lot of people, and honestly, it is a scary feature, but OpenAI has talked about how users will be able to control ChatGPT's memory, and users can even tell the chatbot to remember certain things. In addition to that, you also can turn off the feature altogether. There is also a grey area where you can tell the chatbot to remember certain things and forget other things via settings.

You can also go ahead and talk to ChatGPT in temporary chats to have conversations without any memory, which is a great feature if you do not want to have your information used for training the AI model in the future. I do believe that this is a very, very convenient feature. To ensure there is no confusion, OpenAI has talked about how the content you provide to the chatbot could be used to improve the model for everyone's use. However, if you don't want it, you can turn off this data collection behavior.

Last but not least, custom ChatGPT is going to have its own distinct memory, so if you want to go for that, you have the option to use it. Safe to say, OpenAI is making sure that users are getting all the options that are going to make their overall experience a lot better and more convenient with the service. You can expect the platform to release more features, as well.
