This morning, Japanese developer and publisher CAPCOM announced that its brand-new sci-fi intellectual property, PRAGMATA, is off to a great start, having sold more than 1 million units in its first 2 days on the market.
In the press release, CAPCOM noted that the IP (which has been in development for a long time) was crafted by a team of younger developers who successfully created an innovative gameplay experience by fusing action gameplay with puzzle elements (the real-time hacking mini-game). To offset the lack of a pre-existing fanbase or brand recognition, CAPCOM implemented a series of marketing initiatives that paid off, including the release of the PRAGMATA Sketchbook demo on all platforms. Moreover, they added support for the Nintendo Switch 2 console early to broaden the title's availability, which certainly helped them achieve this sales milestone.
The team shared this comment:
As a completely new IP, PRAGMATA represents a new challenge for Capcom, built from the ground up with an original world and gameplay concept. We are truly delighted that so many players around the world have enjoyed the game, enabling us to reach this milestone of one million units sold. Moving forward, we will continue making every effort to deliver the appeal of PRAGMATA to an even broader audience.
CAPCOM thus continues its streak of successful game releases, dating back all the way to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Only very few of their launches have been unsuccessful, namely the multiplayer third-person shooter Exoprimal and the action-strategy game Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. To a lesser extent, even Dragon's Dogma 2 can be considered slightly less successful than most of the recent CAPCOM games. While it has sold over 4 million units to date, fans weren't so thrilled with it, and recent Steam reviews are now 'Mixed'. CAPCOM might be about to announce an expansion for it, though.
