Reliable rumors about 2023’s Call of Duty title have been swirling for some time, but now it seems Activision is finally getting around to (more or less) confirming them. Originally, it was reported that Call of Duty would actually be skipping 2023, with a major expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II to be released instead. Later, that expansion would morph into a full game, headed up by Sledgehammer Games, reportedly titled Modern Warfare III.

Recently, a number of images purportedly from a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III internal alpha leaked, and Activision quickly and aggressively copyright struck them. That largely removed the images from the Internet, but, of course, also had the unintended effect of essentially confirming that Modern Warfare III is real. Perhaps realizing the cat’s out of the bag, the official Call of Duty dropped this cheeky tweet, confirming that Modern Warfare II operators, weapons, and bundles will carry over to CoD 2023. This basically confirms that the game is a continuation of MW2.

So yeah, if you weren’t convinced by the rumors before, you should be now. As for what we can expect from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, those leaked screens seemed to reveal a few things. Apparently, the classic minimap will be back, and perks will now be tied to gear. So, for instance, you might be able to buy a pair of boots that will give you the Ninja perk, ect. Basically, it's a new way to get players buying gear. It’s also reported by Insider Gaming that a number of classic Call of Duty multiplayer maps as well as the “War” mode from CoD WW2 will be returning.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet. We don’t know when exactly the full reveal of CoD 2023 will be, but an August announcement seems likely. Insider Gaming believes these will be the key dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s rollout

What do you think? Does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III interest you at all? Or will you be skipping this puffed-up piece of DLC?
