Well over ten years after its release, Bloodborne remains one of the most loved action role-playing games developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The enduring popularity of the game directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki makes it even more baffling that it is still stuck on PlayStation 4, so much so that even former PlayStation Boss Shuhei Yoshida finds the lack of PS5 ports and PC remasters a "mystery."

The former PlayStation executive went over the game during a keynote session at CEDEC 2026, where he reflected on his 30-year career and the amazing games he encountered. This included Demon's Souls, which originally created a rift between FromSoftware and PlayStation due to a lack of initial support, a relationship that was eventually mended with the development of Bloodborne.

“This title has a massive fan base all over the world. However, a PS5 version hasn't been released, right? People point out that PlayStation's first-party teams keep pumping out remasters, so why haven't they released this one? Or why hasn't a PC version come out? I get asked 'Why hasn't it been released?' all the time myself, but well... that remains a mystery,” Yoshida-san said.

Although Yoshida-san couldn't say why Bloodborne has yet to launch on PlayStation 5 (which can run the original PS4 version at high resolutions and above 60 FPS with ease) and PC, the former PlayStation boss did not completely squash hopes of a return to Yharnam.

“It might come out in the future, or it might not. A sequel might be made, or it might not. Speaking strictly as a fan, I really hope it comes out.”

With the extreme popularity the game still enjoys - so extreme that the development of the ShadPS4 PlayStation 4 emulator was centered on it so that it could be played on PC at high resolution, 60 FPS and above, and other enhancements - it is indeed a mystery why Bloodborne has yet to be ported or remastered in some capacity. However, FromSoftware likely has more to do with this than PlayStation, as we learned that Bluepoint Games pitched a remake in 2025 which was refused by the Japanese developer.

Considering how much Hidetaka Miyazaki’s direction made Bloodborne the game it is, it's unlikely we will see anything new done with the franchise until the FromSoftware president is free. Which may not be for a while, as he is directing the upcoming The Duskbloods, for which fans have very high expectations as it is reportedly the game FromSoftware spent the most time developing.
