At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Sony Pictures took the stage to drop an unexpected movie announcement: an R-rated Bloodborne animated film is in development by Jacksepticeye (Seán McLoughlin).
The Irish content creator launched his channel nearly 14 years ago and now has over 31 million YouTube subscribers. He did a cameo in 2021's Free Guy movie with Ryan Reynolds, voiced a character in the Sonic Prime TV series, and was previously announced as an executive producer on Godmother, an indie ritualistic thriller written and directed by John Veron, which began production on December 2 in New Mexico.
Jacksepticeye himself shared all his excitement in a post submitted on the Bloodborne subreddit, vowing to make the best possible adaptation.
I am producing this project, and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!! I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favorite game ever made, but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it. I can’t share much about the project right now, but man, does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!
The choice of an animated movie is definitely smart, as a live action Bloodborne adaptation would likely have required a substantial budget. Granted, fans of the game would have preferred the long-awaited remake or, even better, a sequel, but perhaps this is Sony's way of testing how much power the IP still retains over a decade after its original release. We recently learned that FromSoftware denied Bluepoint Games' remake pitch, and the studio was later shuttered.
Aside from the Bloodborne news, Sony also provided updates on other gaming adaptations. Production of the Helldivers film, starring Jason Momoa, is set to officially begin in New Zealand in a few weeks. Justin Lin, known for directing the Fast & Furious films, is at the helm, while Gary Dauberman, who wrote the screenplays for It and Annabelle, is handling the script.
The live-action The Legend of Zelda film has officially wrapped filming, and Sony Pictures confirmed the previously announced target release date of May 7, 2027. Directed by Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner films, it features Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason cast as Link and Zelda, respectively. Lastly, the CinemaCon presentation included a new trailer for Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil movie, slated to debut in theaters on September 18, 2026.
