Rebel Wolves, a studio made up of former CD Projekt RED developers, is getting ready to launch their debut game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, which sees players step into the shoes of Coen, a human recently turned vampire who retains the ability to walk in sunlight. Today, Rebel Wolves dove into the game by showcasing more of its open-world gameplay, and revealing a new story trailer that is capped off by the reveal of the game's release date, set for September 3, 2026.

You can check out the full livestream event to watch Rebel Wolves talk in detail about their inspirations for the open world, combat, and story of The Blood of the Dawnwalker, but if you'd rather just check out the story trailer to get caught up on what's happening in the game and when you'll be able to play it, you can watch that below. The Blood of Dawnwalker sees Coen try to take down Xanthe, a Vampire who feels it's time for their blood-sucking kind to conquer the world, and he'll start his empire on top of the blood of Coen's family.

Coen then has a month to try to stop Xanthe, and it's during that month that players will explore the open world of Sangora as Coen, impacting the world in a variety of ways based on the decisions you'll make in the quests you'll discover in the open world.

As a studio largely founded by from CDPR devs, comparisons between Blood of Dawnwalker and The Witcher were almost immediate, but unlike other developers who may not want their games constantly compared to one of the best and biggest names in the genre, Rebel Wolves invites the comparisons.

"I'm really comfortable. I feel really confident about our game; we're already past friends-and-family testing and focus tests at professional companies, and the feedback is really good," said chief executive officer, studio co-founder and game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz in a recent interview when asked about the comparisons.

It'll be interesting to see if The Blood of Dawnwalker can live up to those comparisons when it arrives on September 3, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
