We've known since the game's announcement that The Blood of Dawnwalker would not be quite as large as The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. This makes perfect sense, as Rebel Wolves is smaller than CD Projekt RED was when it made its masterpiece.

However, what exactly is the scope that players can expect in the full game? As reported by Gamereactor, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker turned out to be even bigger than the studio had originally planned. The goal was to target a 40-hour average playthrough, but now that all the content is in place and testing is being conducted, the average is between 50 and 70, presumably depending on how much time the player spends exploring Vale Sangora.

It's funny, because when we first started to work, we planned it for 40 hours. Right now, the average is around 50 hours, but it depends on which difficulty level you play, how picky you are, how much you explore, and how much you upgrade your gear, and so on. Lately, a few persons from our team finished the game… and there are big differences between them. It's like from 50 hours to around 70.

The low end is actually similar to The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, which averaged 51 hours and a half for a storyline-focused playthrough according to How Long to Beat.com. CD Projekt RED's game had much more side content, though, taking up to 170 hours for true completionists. Still, for the first game in what Rebel Wolves hopes will become a franchise, that's no slouch. It's certainly more than Obsidian's latest two action RPGs, Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2.

As covered yesterday, Tomaszkiewicz also revealed that a full evil playthrough is not only possible but also something he'd love to see from players.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches September 3, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. You can find the detailed PC system requirements here.
