AYANEO Officially Announces Strix Halo-Based NEXT 2 Handheld, Boasting TMR Joysticks and Dual-Mode Triggers

Chinese gaming handheld manufacturer AYANEO has finally unveiled its NEXT 2 gaming handheld, revealing the essential specifications and features of the device. The company previously teased NEXT 2 several months ago, and what we know now isn't necessarily a lot compared to previously. AYANEO hasn't disclosed everything, including the screen properties, battery life, memory, storage, etc.

However, AYANEO has listed the core hardware of the device as well as its provided details on its control system. The AYANEO NEXT 2 will be a Windows-based gaming handheld, and the third to hit the market as a Strix Halo-based handheld. GPD and OneXPlayer have both released their flagship Ryzen AI Max+ 395 gaming handhelds already, and this makes NEXT 2 the third option, but comparable in performance to the other two.

Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is a 16-core/32-thread Zen 5-based mobile APU that uses RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S iGPU. This is the fastest iGPU in the mainstream segment and can deliver nearly RTX 4060 performance. For even modern gaming requirements, this is sufficient for most, but it isn't clear how many options AYANEO will have for the memory and storage. Considering most handheld makers are starting their configurations with 32 GB/ 1 TB, it's safe to say that AYANEO will also have a similar base configuration.

From the images shared by AYANEO on its official X account, the NEXT 2 handheld appears to have a good controller. The triggers are dual-mode mode and users can switch between the hair trigger and Hall Effect analog modes. AYANEO says it's using "exclusive TMR" large joysticks for a better experience, and we can see the Xbox controller layout with ABXY buttons, a circular D-Pad, and a few miscellaneous buttons.

AYANEO says it has a "Top-tier" screen, but hasn't announced its size, resolution, panel type, and refresh rate. The company says that it is equipped with an "extra-large" battery, and it is a built-in battery, unlike the GPD Win 5 removable battery. For cooling, it utilizes a dual-fan cooling design, as we saw previously.

AYANEO hasn't announced the pricing, configurations, and availability of the console yet, but be prepared to see it as another $1500+ gaming handheld.
