ASUS X870 Motherboards Receive Support For A Future AMD Ryzen CPU In Latest BIOS

ASUS has rolled out a new BETA BIOS for its X870E and X870 motherboards, which adds support for a future CPU. This new BETA BIOS is based on the AGESA 1300a firmware. It is stated that this BIOS may be released as a stable version on the main webpage, with X870E/B850 being the first to roll out this week, followed by X670E/B650 roll out in the next week.

Now coming to the part about the future CPU, well, this could point to two things: either the Ryzen AI 400 series or the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. We know that AMD has officially announced its Ryzen AI 400 APU family, which will include consumer boxed SKUs. The lineup features up to 8 "Zen 5" cores and 8 RDNA 3.5 iGPU cores. These come in 65W TDPs and will make for a nice upgrade over the older Ryzen 8000G APUs that are based on the older Zen 4 and RDNA 3 architectures.

The other possibility is that AMD is finally gearing up to launch its Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU, which, as per previous rumors, is expected to feature dual 3D V-Cache CCDs for up to 128 MB of X3D cache and a total of 192 MB of total cache across 16 cores and 32 threads. The chip was expected to be announced with the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, but AMD has so far held back from releasing it. Either CPU release will expand the AM5 lineup with more options.
