The new ASUS ROG graphics dock will be released next week and will feature the fastest mobile GPU from NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 series.
ASUS RTX 5090-Equipped ROG XG Mobile 2025 Will Launch Next Week for $2199.99, Taking Portability To New Levels
Roughly a month ago, ASUS unveiled its newest external GPU dock, the ROG XG Mobile. This is a 2025 edition, succeeding the previous dock that came with up to a GeForce RTX 4090 mobile GPU. Featuring the GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile GPU, it's the fastest external GPU dock at the moment and the first to feature a Thunderbolt 5 port.
As per the latest report (via ITHome), the ASUS ROG XG Mobile will officially launch on 25th February. So, we are only a week away from seeing the fastest external GPU dock that will boast up to 80 Gigabits of bandwidth through the Thunderbolt 5 port. This is twice the bandwidth available through the Thunderbolt 4 port and helps the dock support very high resolutions at high refresh rates.
As per ASUS, the 2025 ROG XG Mobile can support up to 8K videos for creators and a triple 4K monitor setup at 144Hz. Apart from Thunderbolt 5, it boasts the latest connectivity options, such as USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, DP 2.1, SD Card Reader, and a 5G LAN port for fast internet connectivity.
The RTX 5090 laptop GPU inside will be powered by a 330W power supply and, despite being such a feature-packed box, it weighs less than 1 KG and still manages to deploy efficient cooling through a Vapor Chamber. As per ASUS, the ROG XG Mobile is ultra quiet and reduces the noise levels by 3dBA over its predecessors and has rear-side vents to increase the airflow.
While all these specs and features are excellent on paper, the more important question is whether it will have good availability. The desktop RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are hard to find, and the same has been said regarding the upcoming Laptop RTX 50 series. Meanwhile, NVIDIA is about to launch the RTX 5070 Ti tomorrow, which may see a similar fate.
Nonetheless, if you do manage to buy the ROG XG Mobile 2025, you will have to pay $2199.99. This enclosure brings you the 24 GB GeForce RTX 5090 mobile GPU, but if your pocket doesn't allow it, you may opt for the $1199.99 version with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU.
