ASUS is gearing up for next-gen AMD Ryzen APU support on its AM5 800-series motherboards with new AGESA 1.2.7.0 BIOS firmware.
AMD's Next-Gen Ryzen APUs Are On The Horizon, ASUS Preps Optimized Support For Its AM5 800-Series Motherboards With New AGESA 1.2.7.0 BIOS
Yesterday, we reported on AMD's next-gen Ryzen APU support being baked within the latest AGESA 1.2.7.0 firmware. This new BIOS firmware offers optimized support for next-gen APUs, which will likely be based on the Strix/Krackan series. While we wait for AMD to officially announce these chips, it looks like motherboard vendors want to stay ahead of the curve and already offer optimized support for the chips.
It should be pointed out that AMD and its motherboard partners already delivered initial support for the next-gen AM5 APU family in earlier BIOS versions, such as AGESA 1.2.0.3 and its respective patches. This is a newer BIOS with improved support.
As for the release, the ASUS AGESA 1.2.7.0 BIOS is still BETA, as the official version listed by the board maker is still based on the AGESA 1.2.0.3g firmware. The new BETA BIOS has the following changes:
- Update to AGESA ComboAM5 1.2.7.0
- New APUs Support
- Improve system performance
Now we still expect AMD and its partners to release a more optimized and official BIOS when the next-gen Ryzen AM5 APUs hit shelves, but for those who want to have early support, well, you can download them for your respective motherboard from the following links:

AMD's next-generation Ryzen APUs for the AM5 socket will finally replace the aging Ryzen 8000G series. The new APUs, likely to be called Ryzen 9000G, will feature Zen 5 cores and RDNA 3.5 iGPU cores, making for a decent upgrade over the older Hawk Point series. We will also see heightened NPU capabilities with 50-55 TOPS. These APUs will certainly be great for mainstream PC builders who want to leverage the iGPU and NPU capabilities.
