The ASUS B850M AYW appears to be an overclocking monster, and we won't be surprised if it surpasses the MSI B850MPOWER.

DDR5 Memory Reaches a Whopping 8800 MT/s at just CL34 Latency on ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi; Offers Incredible OC Potential at <$200

Both MSI and ASUS have prepared two of their best overclocking motherboards on a budget. We reviewed the MSI B850MPOWER, which trades blows with much more expensive X870E chipset motherboards. Not only is it compact, it also offers hands down the best overclocking experience for just $259. However, it could soon be outclassed by ASUS's upcoming B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi motherboard, which is going to be its toughest competitor for even a lower price.

Even though there is still some time to see this motherboard on shelves, we already have some early performance numbers of the B850M AYW Gaming OC as reported by @unikoshardware. Someone on Facebook showcased the capabilities of this motherboard when it comes to memory overclocking, and as you can see, the user was able to push his DDR5 memory to a whopping 8,800 MT/s at incredibly low timings. The user deployed a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with a 48 GB DDR5 RAM kit to achieve the results and was able to achieve full stability at 8,800 MT/s.

The B850M AYW uses just 2x DIMMs with a 1SPC (one slot per channel) configuration, allowing each memory module to get a dedicated channel for better speeds and stability. This is similar to the MSI B850MPOWER, and there are a few enthusiast-grade X870E motherboards that do the same for achieving higher memory speeds. The user achieved 8,800 MT/s using a 2x 24 GB DDR5 memory configuration at just CL34, which is incredibly impressive and hard to achieve on an AM5 platform, particularly on an affordable segment model.

The user was also able to push the memory speed to 10,400 MT/s, but at CL50-60-60-127 when paired with Ryzen 5 8500G, which is still decent. Keep in mind that this result was achieved with the stock cooler, but @unikoshardware speculates that the user might have deployed a chiller for both the CPU and RAM cooling in the first scenario.

That said, the B850M AYW Gaming appears to have very short signal traces and is using high-quality PCBs to reduce signal degradation. Also, the memory VRM appears to be exceptional, but we don't know how it will perform in CPU overclocking. We expect it to trade blows with MSI B850MPOWER, but at a speculated price of <$200, the ASUS one might take the crown. It's expected that the ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi will launch in October, and unlike the MSI motherboard, it will have the Q-CODE and onboard OC buttons that will come in handy.

ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi 7 features at a glance:

  • USB 9a1c
  • WiFi antenna quick release
  • PCIe quick release
  • White PCB
  • 2x DIMM
  • Onboard debug code led
  • Onboard oc buttons
