Assassin's Creed Shadows, formerly codenamed Assassin's Creed Red, was announced by Ubisoft during the September 2022 franchise showcase. At that time, Vice President and Brand Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté said:

This is Codename: Red, our next premium flagship title and the future of our open-world RPG games on Assassin's Creed. It is being developed by Ubisoft Québec, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Odyssey, under the creative direction of Jonathan Dumont.

It will let players explore one of their most awaited settings ever on the franchise, feudal Japan, and they'll live a very powerful shinobi fantasy.

Last year, Insider Gaming reported that there will be two playable characters in the game: a female samurai and an African refugee shinobi. The report also highlighted an increased focus on stealth, with mechanics borrowed from franchises like HITMAN and Splinter Cell. That would certainly fit a game titled Assassin's Creed Shadows. Later, we learned there would be some destructible environments and even mechanics inspired by FromSoftware's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (a posture bar that will have to be broken to get through the enemy's defenses).

From a technical standpoint, players can look forward to virtual geometry, ray traced global illumination, and improvements to the weather system and animations.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released on November 15. While the official reveal is slated for tomorrow at 9 AM Pacific Time, it is likely that we'll get a lot more info during the Ubisoft Forward event scheduled to go live on June 10 from Los Angeles.
