Ubisoft Ends Assassin’s Creed Shadows Support With Black Tides, the True Finale Hunting Naoe and Yasuke at Last

Today, Ubisoft is releasing the final content drop update for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Patch 1.1.11, which varies in size from the 9GB of the Mac version to the 26.1GB of the Xbox version, introduces new story content, a major endgame feature, live crossover events, and a wide range of bug fixes.

First, there's a new quest called Black Tides, which serves as the true concluding chapter for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. Two elite Templars known as the Black Cross arrive in Japan to hunt the protagonists for the chaos they've caused, though both agents may be pursuing their own hidden agendas. To unlock the quest, players must have completed the main stories of both protagonists, as well as the two previous post-launch story drops (A Critical Encounter, which introduced rogue Rufino, and A Puzzlement, which added Kane and Kinu). Notably, having finished the Claws of Awaji expansion is not required. For players who skipped the post-launch content entirely, this effectively means there is now a three-chapter story arc waiting before this final quest, making it the de facto "real" ending of the game.

Then there's Domains, the headline new feature for hardcore players, accessible at level 30. Created in-world by MOD, an Assassin hacker, as a set of combat and survival trials for Dark Animus users, it consists of 5 gameplay simulation arenas across 10 escalating difficulty levels, with the challenge designed to force players to rethink their builds: a strategy that works in one Domain may fail entirely in the next. The feature comes with its own dedicated merchant, in-game currency, and progression tree where players can purchase Animus exploits, new endgame gear sets, powerful engravings, and fan-favorite legacy weapons. Crucially, none of these rewards will ever appear in the store or the exchange, as they are exclusively earned through Domains and intended as pure bragging-rights items for the most dedicated players.

A third Animus Rift called Horizon is also now available, continuing the Eagle/Guide storyline. Players must have completed both previous Animus Rifts to access it.

Finally, the Animus HUB is now accessed exclusively through the Shadows Memory page in the system menu, harmonizing in-menu and in-gameplay navigation. The Forge engraving list has been reordered with a new Critical Category added, and world map pins and markers now correctly persist through travel between Japan and Awaji. On that note, the patch also adds two new crossover Projects in the Animus HUB, Riptides and Undertow, which unlock themed outfits, weapons, trinkets, and other rewards. Players activate them by completing Anomalies and progressing through the reward tracks, just like previous HUB projects. These rewards span both Assassin's Creed Shadows and the upcoming Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, so progress can be made by playing Anomalies in either game. One important tidbit is that the crossover Projects will not be available on Nintendo Switch 2, since Black Flag Resynced isn't coming to the console.
