Ubisoft's chief executive officer, Yves Guillemot, personally confirmed back in 2024 that "players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them." Now, the first of those remakes is almost here with Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, and according to a new report, the rest of the remakes (which reportedly include a remake of the original Assassin's Creed) players might hope to see follow Black Flag won't make it out to store shelves if Black Flag doesn't fly off those same walls.

According to Insider-Gaming, who has been part of why Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is "gaming's worst kept secret," something Ubisoft eventually acknowledged itself, the commercial success of Black Flag Resynced will determine whether Ubisoft continues down this road or stops after one, or two kicks at the can.

A second Assassin's Creed remake after Black Flag Resynced is already in development, according to Insider-Gaming, so it could be that Ubisoft gives this remake experiment at least two chances to meet its sales expectations. But even that seems to rely on whether Black Flag Resynced can reach the sales numbers Ubisoft is looking to see from these titles.

Of course, that may seem obvious to some who remember that Ubisoft started the year with a massive company restructuring that resulted in mass layoffs, with several titles, announced and unannounced cancelled, and the shuttering of some of its studios. The company isn't exactly in its best shape, and it's going through a major transition period. It needs a win, and bringing back what is arguably the most beloved title in its most beloved franchise sounds like it should be a slam-dunk sales charting win.

But that's not guaranteed, even with the excitement that the seemingly endless stream of leaks has drummed up over the years, most recently coming in the form of gameplay footage and side-by-side comparisons with the original game appearing online days ahead of the official reveal.

At least it sounds like Ubisoft is doing everything it can to make its first of a potential series of remakes a slam-dunk, since the report also claims that this remake will indeed include "new story elements, content, and systems." It will not include the DLC or the multiplayer features from the original Black Flag, but this also won't be a case of the original game getting delisted once this version is out. The initial 2013 game, the DLC that followed and its multiplayer will remain available, at least for now.

We'll know if that's the case for sure in a couple of days, and it'll be interesting to see what else Ubisoft is doing to try and make this game a success.
