Apple has unveiled its new Mac mini, which has both M4 and M4 Pro chips and comes with an even compact form factor, standing at only 5 by 5 inches. The biggest upgrade, alongside the powerful performance owing to the chipset, is the three Thunderbolt 5 ports that the M4 Pro chip version supports. The three Thunderbolt 5 ports offer double the speed of the Thunderbolt 4, can go up to 120 Gb/s, and can handle multiple devices simultaneously.
The new Thunderbolt 5 standard offers some other noteworthy upgrades, including the NativeDisplayPort 2.1 Output, which, if compared to the USB-C port, offers direct video output and supports higher resolution and refresh rates for an improved visual experience. It seamlessly integrates with USB4 and allows for compatibility with various devices. It also comes with support for PCle 4.0, which would improve performance significantly through faster data speeds.
Now, if we look at the new Mac mini with an M4 chip, it features three Thunderbolt 4 ports and offers robust connectivity with varied devices. Both models come with two USB-C ports on the front that extend support for USB 3 and offer higher data transfer speeds. It also has an audio jack that supports headphones with higher electrical resistance for a better audio experience.
Additionally, both Mac mini models are equipped with Gigabit Ethernet, which ensures a reliable network and faster speeds that can go up to 10Gb Ethernet and can handle highly demanding tasks with great ease. There is the inclusion of HDMI ports as well to make it easy for users to connect with TVs without any additional adapters, and it supports up to two 6K displays and one 5K display simultaneously. The M4 Pro can handle three 6K displays at 60Hz and can serve to be really beneficial for professionals who seek higher resolution displays.
The new Mac mini packed with the M4 starts at $599 with 16GB of storage, while the M4 Pro version starts at $1,399 with 24GB. The revamped Mac mini is available for pre-order today and will be launched on Friday, November 8th.
