With nary a mystery left as to the upcoming iOS 27 and the new Siri, Apple's WWDC event is starting to feel a bit stale at the edges, especially as a series of leaks have just thoroughly demystified Apple's upcoming goodies, replete with detailed concept-based images of the new UI.
A new leak has just given us our first glimpse at what the actual UI on Apple's iOS 27 will look like, replete with the new Siri app in action
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has just given us our first look at what the new UI on the upcoming iOS 27 might look like.
Along with a host of accessibility features, Apple's iOS 27 update will bring a number of improvements, including:
- A whole new customizable camera app, replete with distinct widgets for each camera mode.
- A dedicated Siri app that lists recent conversations, and sports a feature that automatically purges conversations for added privacy.
- A new swipe-down-from-the-top gesture that unleashes an AI-powered "Search or Ask" bar within the Dynamic Island. From there, users can launch apps, start text messages, ask about the weather, add calendar appointments, search through notes, trigger shortcuts within apps, or search the web using Apple’s new AI-powered search system
- A long-press on the search bar will now let users swap AI models that power the new multi-modal Siri.
- Safari will get a new Start Page with four dedicated tabs for accessing favorites, bookmarks, a reading list, and browsing history.
- The Weather app will get a new 'Conditions' panel on the main page.
- A redesigned Image Playground that will get a new "describe a change" option as well the ability to produce more life-like results. You can also create custom wallpapers and images for your iPhone, all from your text-based prompts.
- Search will be integrated within the bottom bar in most Apple apps.
- Writing Tools will now come with a "Write With Siri" toggle located at the top of the keyboard, a "Help Me Write" option that appears when Siri is activated while a text field is open, and a dedicated AI-powered grammar check tool that will work with Grammarly to show suggestions within a translucent window next to the text.
- The Shortcuts app is also getting updated with the ability to create app shortcuts via natural language prompts. You can also describe to Siri what a specific shortcut does to have it seamlessly integrated within AI-powered workflows.
- A dedicated "Apple Intelligence Tools" section within the Photos app in the iOS 27 and macOS 27 updates unlocks three new features: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe.
Meanwhile, The Information has published a separate post, detailing how Apple's AI-related deal with Google is evolving.
As we detailed recently, Apple's revamped chatbot Siri will run on Google's own TPUs and cloud infrastructure, albeit under Apple's ownership. The iPhone manufacturer insists that the arrangement would not result in a change in Apple's stringent privacy-related safeguards.
According to the previous tidbits by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Siri chatbot will be baked into Apple's software, allowing it to leverage personal data, perform in-app actions, search the web, generate content, including images, provide coding assistance, summarize and analyze information, as well as upload files.
Apple is also designing a feature that will let the chatbot Siri view already-open windows and on-screen content, along with the ability to adjust device features and settings, and handle combo requests that combine several commands within a single prompt.
The chatbot Siri will reportedly leverage a much more advanced version of Google's Gemini model, known internally as Apple Foundation Models version 11. According to Gurman, "the model is expected to be competitive with Gemini 3 and significantly more capable" than the one supporting the revamped Siri.
Today, The Information has revealed that "Apple is using a version of Google’s large Gemini model to train a smaller version of the model that can run locally on Apple devices, a process known as distillation."
Interestingly, Apple is also apparently mulling acquiring companies that can help it in this model distillation task.
Also, given the fact that Google's model has trillions of parameters, Apple has been struggling to accommodate it within its bespoke server network, called Private Cloud Compute. Accordingly, some user requests for the new Siri will be processed directly by Google's licensed Gemini model in Google Cloud. Apple is also considering using NVIDIA's GPUs for inference tasks in Google Cloud, especially as those GPUs are capable of encrypting data and AI models as they are being processed, resulting in enhanced privacy.
According to The Information, "Apple is expected to continue using the ‘Private Cloud Compute’ branding for its next wave of Apple Intelligence features, even though they will no longer run exclusively on Apple’s own servers."
