A multitude of products are expected to launch later in the year, which only means that Apple and its talented team have their hands full developing custom chipsets for different devices. In fact, based on evidence spotted in early iOS 18 code, it was revealed that the Cupertino firm is working on seven of them, including two for the upcoming iPhone 17 series slated to launch in September. The company is also trying to materialize its second-generation in-house 5G modem, the C2, which will directly succeed the C1 found in the iPhone 16e. Here are additional details that you would love to check out.
A new ‘Proxima’ chip has also been referenced in early iOS 18 code, indicating that Apple intends to integrate the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip in a single package
An internal-use build of iOS 18 was spotted by AppleInsider on the Chinese video-uploading platform Bilibili, but it did not take long for the clip to make its way to YouTube, with the channel going by the name ‘诗篇里的落花.’ Thanks to subtitles present in the video, we learn about several system codenames and identifiers that correspond to seven unreleased chips from Apple, starting with the A19, which will likely power the iPhone 17 Air’s innards and is noted by the codename Tilos.
Additionally, evidence of the A19 Pro with the codename Thera and CPID T8150 was also found in the code, and it will likely be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Shortly after Apple’s flagship smartphone series is announced, the California-based giant is scheduled to unveil updated versions of its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, of which the M5 and M5 Pro, also called Hidra and Sotra, will be a part of the portable Mac lineup’s specifications. The new Apple Watch Series 11 is said to be powered by Bora, which will reportedly be based on the A18 and sports the CPID T8320.
Next up, we have Apple’s Proxima chip, with the firm aiming to integrate both the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips to create a single unit. Last but certainly not least, we have the C2 5G modem, with the possibility that we will witness a launch happening next year when the iPhone 17e succeeds the iPhone 16e. It will be an exciting few months, and we will provide timely updates for each of these seven chipsets in the future, so stay tuned.
