As the pre-order date of the Apple Vision Pro draws near, we got to know some tidbits about the mixed-reality headset. During the official announcement, we learned that the device would ship with the M2 and the R1 co-processor, though Apple kept mum on the specifics. Thankfully, according to the latest rumor, the $3,499 device will feature the higher-end version of the M2, resulting in improved graphics performance, which will be necessary when driving those two 4K microLED screens.
Higher-end M2 to feature 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU; the same version powering the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air
When Apple announced the M2, it arrived in two versions; an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, and another 10-core GPU variant that was pricier than the base version. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has received another tip surrounding the Apple Vision Pro that it will be treated to the slightly more powerful M2, which should be the case, given that it will cost $3,499, so it should feature the very best silicon that can power its innards.
The 10-core GPU will deliver a small graphics performance boost, which will be necessary to enjoy fluid 4K content through the Apple Vision Pro’s high-resolution displays. Also, the R1 co-processor will likely take some of the processing overhead away from the M2, giving the chipset sufficient breathing room to tackle the more intensive tasks. In his latest post on X, Gurman also mentioned that Apple Card customers can opt for installments at checkout.
Hearing the M2 chip in the Vision Pro is the higher end variant with 10 GPU cores and 8 CPU cores. Separately, Apple Card Installments will indeed be an option at checkout online and at retail stores. https://t.co/MPsLc1TIca

Flexibility such as paying in installments should allow more customers to make the Apple Vision Pro their daily driver, as it is not financially feasible to undertake a $3,499 purchase in a single attempt, so assuming what Gurman has posted is true, it is a smart strategy from Apple. Pre-orders of the Apple Vision Pro are expected to start on January 19, with the mixed-reality headset officially going on sale on February 2.
