Apple Vision Pro pre-orders went live under an hour ago, and already, the shipping dates of the AR headset have started to get pushed back, which is not at all surprising, given the fact that on multiple occasions, the device has been reported to be mass produced in fewer quantities.

With the first batch estimated to reach just 80,000 units, it was clear that the Apple Vision Pro stock was going to run out fast

As reported by AppleInsider, customers who successfully pre-ordered the Apple Vision Pro would have expected the device to ship on February 2, as it is the launch date of the headset. Unfortunately, early adopters will have to wait a while to receive it since shipping dates of the head-mounted wearable have started slipping. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously estimated that the initial shipments of Apple Vision Pro would be between 60,000 and 80,000 units in the U.S.

However, he also mentioned that the headset would almost immediately sell out, which might indicate that the pre-order run was a ‘home run.’ However, the actual success story of the Apple Vision Pro would be how well it would sell if the initial shipments were 500,000 units or more. For 2024, Kuo has predicted that the AR headset would ship half a million units, but he also states that before WWDC 2024 kicks off, the device would be available in markets outside of the U.S., which should help to push that figure higher.

However, that is if consumers can get around the fact that the product costs $3,499 and that too offers 256GB of internal storage, which is not even the top-end model. The official release date of the Apple Vision Pro is February 2, so we will have a clearer image of how popular the company’s first attempt at a mixed-reality headset is once it starts to stock multiple units at various retail outlets in the U.S. from next month. Until then, we can only guess how many people pre-ordered it.
