The Apple Vision Pro is possibly the company’s most ambitious product to date, not to mention one of the most expensive, starting from $3,499. However, its launch would not have been possible without several key personnel, one of them being the headset’s marketing head. Unfortunately, a new report states that the executive is retiring from the company after serving more than three decades.
Frank Casanova was named the first head of marketing for Augmented Reality in 2019 and was responsible for bringing the Apple Vision Pro to the market
The former Apple executive’s journey started in the late 80s when Casanova joined the technology firm to market its iconic products. As reported by AppleInsider, the Senior Director of Product Marketing shaped how customers would interact with Apple’s products, and in 2019, he became the first marketing executive for the augmented reality division.
Bloomberg reports that Casanova had the foresight to embrace advanced technologies, but even those ambitions were insufficient for the Apple Vision Pro to launch earlier, with the device officially released in the U.S. in early 2024. Regardless, his pivotal role ensured that the head-mounted wearable was put into production. Before working on Apple’s first AR headset, Casanova made a significant contribution to expanding the iPhone’s carrier network.
Even though a recent report states that Apple Vision Pro demand has fallen considerably, with the company apparently cutting its shipments target by half, competitors like Samsung and Google are racing to build their own versions of mixed-reality headsets, not knowing how well their offerings will fare in the market.
Apple might still look to introduce a low-cost version of its AR headset in 2025, but with Casanova retiring after 36 years and no one named his successor as yet, it is difficult to imagine how the company will proceed with its augmented and virtual reality future. Hopefully, someone who shares the same passion as Casanova and the ambitions to explore newer technologies and expand on them accordingly will be named the next Senior Director of Product Marketing.
