Apple Vision Pro 2 Development ‘Suspended’ As Company Looks To Pin Hopes On Low-Cost Model That Is Reportedly Arriving In Late 2025

Work on the Apple Vision Pro 2 reportedly suspended

The launch of the Apple Vision Pro in eight countries outside of the U.S. may not be sufficient for the technology titan to continue work on the second-generation model, as a new report claims that development of the Apple Vision Pro 2 has been suspended. Instead, the company is focusing more on its upcoming low-cost version, which is said to launch in late 2025. It appears that waning demand for the $3,499 headset likely discouraged Apple’s ambitions as the path to profitability might not justify the billions being poured into developing a premium successor.

Apple Vision Pro lineup was originally intended to be divided into two models, which included the standard variant

A report from The Information states that Apple has informed at least one supplier that it is halting work on its next ludicrously expensive head-mounted wearable and is concentrating on a more affordable version. Past reports have stated that this particular version could launch sometime in 2025 and provide a massive shipment boom to a category that is still nascent and will probably take years to mature. Previously, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimated that the first-generation Apple Vision Pro was estimated to ship between 800,000 and 850,000 units, which is a terrific figure, considering the pricing, the product’s utility level, and the target audience.

Unfortunately, it only took a few weeks for the analyst’s updated shipment estimates to nosedive, as his last prediction dropped to a disappointing 450,000 units for 2024. Based on these numbers, it is no surprise that the Apple Vision Pro 2 would have been difficult to sell, especially when its predecessor could not generate sufficient traction despite being technologically more advanced than the competition. The launch of the new premium AR headset was said to happen by the end of 2026, but it was reported at the time that Apple had not found a way to reduce the Apple Vision Pro 2’s cost.

For the low-cost version, Apple will likely have more flexibility regarding pricing, with previously published information mentioning figures in the range of $1,500 to $2,500. Sadly, to get to this price point, the affordable headset would have to make several sacrifices, such as fewer cameras, the lack of EyeSight, an inferior display, and a possible shift from a Mac chipset to an iPhone one. If you think dropping work on the Apple Vision Pro 2 was the right move to make, considering the lack of positive reception from the current model, let us know in the comments, and we will continue to provide timely updates in the future.
