Netflix currently reigns supreme in holding the title for not just having the highest number of popular streamed shows of 2025, but also obtaining the position of the most popular show on the latest list. However, it is receiving some competition from Apple TV+, whose reported investments of a mammoth $20 billion have paid off because Severance, the science fiction psychological thriller series, has finally broken into the top 5 rankings. Unfortunately, no other original content from the service has made it into the top 10, but it is still a healthy start.
The most popular streamed show of 2025 has a 62 percent higher view count than Severance, according to the latest data
Data compiled by Nielsen reveals that Squid Game was the most streamed show of 2025, garnering an impressive 15,074 million minutes of watch time. On the other hand, Severance is number five, with a total time of 9,275 million minutes. In total, Netflix has four shows that have broken into the top 10, with The Night Agent securing third place and Ginny & Georgia taking fourth. ‘You’ took the number nine position, with Amazon’s Reacher coming in at second place with 13,313 million minutes.
The latest figures are based on total minutes viewed and only represent U.S. audiences, combining connected TVs and other devices. If other regions’ numbers are included, a different picture could be painted. Despite Apple TV+ having just one show in the top 10 list, viewership for Netflix’s streamed content has been declining. As reported by MacRumors, its most streamed titles declined from more than 80 percent in 2021 to just under 50 percent in the first half of 2025. This is because more competitors have entered this space, eating up Netflix’s market share.
However, it should be noted that Apple TV+ only has one winner in the streaming category, and the service could quickly be kicked from this list when Severance no longer has any more seasons to showcase, unless something new and exciting comes along. So far, in the original movies category, F1 is having a successful run, with the latest update being that the film has generated $393.39 million at the global box office.
