In March of this year, Apple announced that it will bring the Apple TV app to other platforms. When it arrived in May, it was compatible with Samsung's Smart TVs and it was expected that it will be rolled out to other smart TV sets. In the past few weeks, Apple TV arrived on Roku and Amazon's Fire TV Stick. Now, the platform is making its way to Sony Smart TVs. Let's dive in to see some more details on the matter.
Apple TV App Being Rolled Out on Select Sony TVs Ahead of Apple TV+ Launch
Apple seems to be blending its tech with the Android platform since Sony makes use of Android TV. The new feature will be available via a firmware update which is gradually being rolled out to some newer TV models. As of now, Sony has not shared a word as to what models will receive the update. According to 9to5mac, models with AirPlay 2 technology will receive the update. Some of these models include:
- Sony Z9G Series (2019)
- Sony A9G Series (2019)
- Sony X950G Series (2019)
- Sony X850G Series (2019)
The app is available worldwide as a user in Brazil has received the update. In addition, it looks like the perfect time to roll out support ahead of the Apple TV+ November 1 launch. There are a handful of shows available at launch, each contributing to a specific genre. Before we share more details on it, if you happen to own a smart Sony TV set, probably the ones listed above, be sure to keep a lookout for the update.
Apple wants to expand the reach of its streaming platform in an attempt to gather more user base. It's good to see Apple expanding Apple TV app to other platforms ahead of the November launch of Apple TV+, the company's upcoming streaming service with original shows, movies, and documentaries. More shows will be added later on after the launch. The service will be priced at $4.99. In addition to this, Apple TV+ can be shared by six members on a single subscription.
However, reviews have a different story to tell. For instance, 'See' is the least worth your time as per critics from Variety and AV Club. However, Apple TV+ producers hold a different opinion regarding the show. Overall, the reviews have been quite mediocre at the initial launch. This might change when more shows will be released by the passage of time.
This is all there is to it folks. Apple TV app on Sony TVs is being rolled out on select models, so do keep a note of it if you own one. Are you willing to give Apple TV+ a swing? Let us know in the comments.
