A few weeks after the device went on sale, it was reported that Apple had silently updated the display of the M4 MacBook Pro models, which was quite surprising as there were no rumors or reports regarding the upgrade. It is now expected that Apple's next-generation Pro Display XDR will feature the same quantum-dot display technology as the new M4 MacBook Pro models.

The news was shared by prominent display analyst Ross Young, claiming that Apple is planning to upgrade the Pro Display XDR with a quantum-dot display, which comes with enhanced benefits over the current version. It is not clear when the company will debut the new display, but it appears to be in the works, as Ross Young is pretty accurate in his claims.
As for what users can expect, Ross Young mentioned in a social media post last week that the quantum-dot display films feature better color gamut support with improved motion performance compared to the KSF phosphor film. The current version of the Pro Display XDR features the same KSF phosphor film along with the last generation's MacBook Pro models. Therefore, we can expect better color accuracy and a faster response time compared to the current iteration of the Pro Display XDR.
It has been a long time, at least five years, since the launch of the original Pro Display XDR, and it is about time the company upgraded it with quantum-dot technology as well as nano-texture for reduced reflections. The device features an LCD panel with LED backlighting and comes with a resolution of 6K and 1,600 nits of brightness. However, the display is still limited to 60HZ, which is something that the company should consider upgrading.
The Pro Display XDR features a hefty price of $4,999, which is without the Pro Stand that Apple offers for an additional $999. Potentially, Apple could lower the price of the device, but it seems highly unlikely. Gurman had previously speculated that Apple could launch an upgraded version of the Pro Display XDR with an Apple Silicon chip. This makes sense as the company offers its slightly less expensive Studio Display with an A13 Bionic chip, which covers several features like a Center Stage Camera, spatial audio, and Siri voice commands. As mentioned earlier, there are no details available on when the company will launch the upgraded Pro Display XDR to the public.
