Apple’s M6 Could Be Announced Much Sooner, As New Report Provides Hints That Only A 5-Month Gap Existed Between The M3 & M4 Launches

Apple could announce the M6 much sooner

Out of the blue, Apple ended up unveiling its AirTag 2, and that can only mean the company has a bevy of surprises awaiting us this year. While the M5 Pro and M5 Max launches are expected in the first half of 2026, some highly interesting information surrounding the M6 has been shared in a new report, mentioning that an unveiling may happen soon. To add fuel to the fire, the same report also says that the launch gap between M3 and M4 was only five months, and seeing as how the M5 was announced in October, we’d better start marking our calendars.

The redesigned MacBook Pro models aren’t expected until the end of 2026, but the M6 can also be found in more Apple products

A multitude of updates have been shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, and in his latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, we learn more about the M6, which is slated to be the first 2nm Apple Silicon. While an exact launch timeline hasn’t been shared, Gurman provides the following details, which are sure to conjure up a boatload of interest.

“One wrinkle: I think the M6 chip is potentially coming sooner than people anticipate. Not necessarily in these next laptops, but still in the near future in some configurations. Apple released the M5 processor in October in three devices. Though it might seem soon for an M6, there was only a five-month gap between the M3 and M4.”

It is worth noting that it has been three years since Apple introduced two new MacBook Pro lineups in a single year, with the previous occasion happening in 2023, when the M2 Pro and M2 Max were succeeded by the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max in October. Even if the M6 MacBook Pro family isn’t expected to launch until the end of 2026, the next-generation chipset can be found in a Mac mini refresh or an iPad Pro launch too.

Keep in mind that the M4 began powering Apple’s flagship tablets before it made its way to the Mac family, so the Cupertino firm may repeat history in 2026. Of course, Gurman has been incorrect in the past, so while we recommend readers set reminders on their phones for five months, we also advise them to treat this information with a pinch of salt, and as always, we will return with more updates.
