Apple has been riding the high horse ever since launching its iPhone 17 lineup, which has generally received a favorable reception, bolstered by the base iPhone 17's stellar features and storage upgrades, a new form factor in the form of the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air, and iterative upgrades for the Pro and Pro Max variants.

The new iPhone lineup's exuberant reception has now propelled Apple to an acme of sorts, with the Cupertino giant managing to record its best third quarter ever.

Omdia: Apple Records Its Best Third Quarter Ever, With iPhone Shipments Growing By 4 Percent Year-Over-Year

The research and intelligence firm, Omdia, is out with an interesting report today on the dynamics prevailing within the global smartphone market.

According to the research firm, global smartphone shipments increased by 3 percent year-over-year in Q3 2025, marking a return to growth as "hardware standouts - foldables, slim phones, bold colors, and back-cover displays - have  captured people’s attention."

Omdia commented on the iPhone 17 lineup by noting:

"Returning demand also enforces the importance of effective portfolio segmentation, where the iPhone 17 series has been a clear stand-out. The base iPhone 17 exceeded launch expectations with upgraded storage at unchanged pricing, while the redesigned iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max continue to attract consumers globally. iPhone Air’s shipments remain modest, but its marketing effectiveness has proven strong, and serves as a core technical testbed for Apple, potentially positioning Apple for future form factor innovations."

It is hardly a surprise, therefore, that Apple's iPhone shipments grew by 4 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2025, marking "its strongest Q3 performance ever."

While the data is still preliminary in nature, Samsung is currently leading among global smartphone OEMs, followed closely by Apple at an 18 percent global market share.
