Apple Is Working On Three New Macs Featuring Custom Co-Processors, Launch Expected This Year

A new report has come into being detailing that the Cupertino-giant is working on its own custom chips. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is working on three updated Mac models which will feature the company's own custom co-processors. The trio of new Macs includes a new desktop and updated laptops as well. The report also detailed that the aforementioned new Mac models will be released this year as well. So let's dive in to see some more details on the Mac processors.

Apple Working On Three Updated Macs To be Released This Year

At this point in time, the recently launched iMac Pro was Apple's very first Mac to feature the company's in-house co-processor. While the report only mentions that the company will release three new Mac models this year, there's no official statement as to which one. The iPhone-maker has a long list of Macs on its hands including the MacBook Air, 12-inch MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, iMac, Mac Pro and the aging Mac mini. So the update could be devoted to any of them.

Apart from the iMac Pro featuring Apple's custom processor, the MacBook Pro was also coupled with the company's T1 chipset that powered the OLED Touch Bar display. Apart from this, the T1 chip also aids in the authentication process and secures Touch ID and Apple Pay In terms of the mighty iMac Pro, Apple's chipset inside works to improve the security of the device by handling the initial boot process.

Apple is working on at least three updated Mac models with custom co-processors for release as soon as this year, including updated laptops and a new desktop, according to a person familiar with the plan.

So would could this move mean for Apple? Making its own custom co-processors would offload even more tasks from the main Intel processor. In addition to this, could Apple be updating its T1 chip for better performance on the MacBook Pro? At this point in time, the change does not seem that necessary but it will always be a welcome addition.
