When it comes to wireless charging, Apple prefers using its own MagSafe technology. The more recent iPhones do offer the technology, but Apple wants to change that for older phones and has decided to bring Qi2 wireless charging support to the older iPhone models. This should not really come as a surprise, considering how the MagSafe helped lay down the foundation of this wireless charging standard.

Apple pushing Qi2 wireless charging to older iPhones is a significant step in the right direction

Since the company has now pushed out the latest iOS 17.2 release candidate, and based on the information found within the new update, it appears that Qi2 wireless charging will now be making its way to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. So, if you do have an older iPhone and you want to benefit from the latest charging tech, this is the way to go.

The iOS 17.2 RC changelog shows Apple is pushing the Qi2 wireless charging support onto the older iPhone. Below, you can see the screenshot showing the changelog:

This certainly is a good move by Apple, and this is one of the reasons why the company is considered better than its counterparts because adding support for such features to the older devices is always a good move.

Moving the Qi2 wireless charging standard is supposed to bring a lot of improvements, and just like MagSafe, it is also a magnet-based charging standard that will allow you to charge your Android devices, and it will also allow for faster throughput compared to its predecessors. Sadly, Apple has not confirmed whether this update will also deliver faster charging. Nevertheless, the update making its way to the older iPhones is certainly a great thing.
